10 Nail Designs We're Obsessing Over in 2025

Every week at our Oceanside salon, we get clients sliding phones across the nail desk: "I want this." And honestly — this year's looks have been some of the most exciting we've seen in a while. The best nail designs 2025 are a mix of bold and minimal, coastal and geometric, classic and completely unexpected. Here are the 10 designs we've been doing most this season — and a few of them honestly surprised even us.

Chrome and Metallic Finishes: Still Having a Moment

Mirror chrome is not going anywhere. If anything, it's gotten more popular this year — especially in rose gold, silver, and the newer holographic powders that shift color depending on the light. Clients who come into our salon before summer events at the harbor or the pier keep requesting this look because it photographs beautifully outdoors.

Metallic finishes work best on gel nails — the chrome powder adheres more evenly to a gel base than to acrylic, and the glossy cure helps the pigment really pop. At our salon, we apply chrome using a silicone applicator after the gel base cures, which gives a much smoother finish than the old brush-on method.

If you haven't tried chrome yet, a single accent nail is a great place to start — three neutral nails and one mirror-chrome feature nail is a look that's subtle enough for work but eye-catching enough for a night out in Oceanside. Highly recommended.

Coastal-Inspired Nail Art: What We're Seeing in Oceanside

This is the category we're most proud of — and the most uniquely Oceanside. Micro French tips in unexpected colors have completely replaced the classic white French tip as the go-to for clients who want something refined but modern. We're talking lavender French, coral French, sage green. Delicate, unexpected, and perfect for the beach-adjacent lifestyle here.

Shell and pearl accents — tiny iridescent gems embedded in the nail — have become one of the most-requested add-ons at our salon this year. They pair beautifully with soft pink or nude bases and feel genuinely coastal without looking costumey. Ombre in ocean tones (seafoam to white, coral to blush) rounds out the coastal trend beautifully.

One of our clients said it perfectly: "I wanted something that felt like Oceanside — not too loud but definitely summer." That's the vibe. You can browse our nail gallery to see some of the coastal looks we've done recently, and check out our nail spa services to see what's available.

The coastal-inspired category is also where we see the most creativity from our nail artists. If you come in with a loose idea — "something beachy but elegant" — we love having that kind of latitude to do something custom.

Abstract Art and Minimalist Designs: The Other Half of 2025 Trends

On the other end of the spectrum from chrome and coastal: abstract nail art is having a serious moment. Negative space designs — where part of the natural nail shows through intentionally — look architectural and modern. Geometric lines (thin stripes, diagonal color blocks, grid patterns) give a graphic, editorial feel that works well for clients who want something artistic but not overpowering at work.

The single bold accent nail is another 2025 staple. Four nails in a clean nude or soft color, and one nail in something completely different — a deep burgundy, a pop of cobalt, a swirl of white on black. It's the easiest way to get creative without committing to a full statement set.

Soft swirl art — fluid, organic curves in two or three contrasting colors — is one of the most Instagrammed nail looks right now, and our artists love doing them. These work great as gel overlays on short to medium length nails. Low maintenance, high impact. They grow out beautifully too, which means you get more days before you start thinking about a refresh.

How to Pick the Right Design for Your Lifestyle and Nail Shape

The best nail designs 2025 isn't just about what looks good on someone else's hand — it's about what works on yours. Nail shape plays a big role. Short nails look incredible with micro French tips, delicate geometric lines, and minimalist accent designs. Long nails are the canvas for bold swirls, chrome, and full abstract art sets.

Your lifestyle matters too. If you work with your hands or type all day, a shorter, harder-wearing design in gel or acrylic will serve you better than delicate embellishments that can snag. If you're going to a summer wedding or a special event in Oceanside, that's the time to go bold and request the chrome or the coastal pearl set you've been eyeing.

Our best advice: bring an inspo photo. Even if we can't replicate it exactly, it gives our artists a starting point — the color family, the mood, the level of detail you're after. And our artists genuinely love when you bring inspo photos. It's one of the most fun parts of the job. Walk in to our S Coast Hwy salon any day and we'll work with whatever you bring.
